ISIS: Συνεχίζονται οι βανδαλισμοί στον αρχαιολογικό χώρο της Παλμύρας [pics]

Σύμφωνα με ρωσικές πηγές, η καταστροφή ενός από τα συμαντικότερα μνημεία στην περιοχή της Μέσης Ανατολής, ο αρχαία πόλη της Παλμύρας στη Συρία, θα συνεχιστεί.

Άνδρες του ISIS ήδη έχουν καταστρέψει μεγάλο μέρος της αρχαίας πόλης, καθώς θεωρείται έργο "άπιστων ειδωλολατρών". 

Το ρωσικό Υπουργείο Άμυνας ανακοίνωσε πως έχει παρατηρηθεί μια αύξηση της κινητικότητας στην περιοχή, που υποδεικνύει νέους βανδαλισμούς στα αρχαία κτήρια της περιοχής.

Many statues in the museum had their faces chipped off -- in keeping with strict Sharia interpretations of the depiction of human forms.

The Syrian directorate-general of antiquities and monuments was positive that the condition of artifacts meant that they could be restored and their "historic value" returned, according to a translation of an article on the <a href="http://www.dgam.gov.sy/index.php?d=314&id=1957" target="_blank">department's website.</a>
